Gulf Coast Conservation Loan Fund

Status: Active revolving loan fund established in early 2017

Geographic Scope: Texas Gulf Coast

Focus Areas:

    Provide interim financing for time-sensitive land conservation projects to maximize Deepwater Horizon oil spill mitigation funding over a three-year period.

  • Loans have been provided to nonprofit partners including The Trust for Public Land

  • As of June 2017, TPWF had raised over $4 million in loans from Texas-based foundations and individuals

  • Received $290,000 Conservation Innovation Grant from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (June 2017)

  • Early charter commitment from Dallas-based philanthropist Lyda Hill

  • Support from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and conservation partners

  • First loan (March 2017): The Trust for Public Land to prevent critical coastal land subdivision

  • Second loan (June 2017): Pristine coastal habitat acquisition near Palacios in Matagorda Bay
  • Partnership:

  • Works with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and other conservation partners to develop pipeline of eligible land projects for Deepwater Horizon funding
