    Named in honor of George Bristol, a long-time champion of state and national parks and advocate for enhanced park funding. The fund enables state park staff to improve their leadership capabilities through training opportunities.

    Background:
    Established in October 2016. George Bristol served as chairman of the Texas State Parks Advisory Committee and led statewide efforts for better park funding. In 2007, the Texas Legislature nearly tripled park appropriations, and in 2015, HB158 dedicated all sporting goods sales tax revenue to Texas parks and historic sites.
