Overview

Good Samaritan Grants

Award Amount: Up to $10,000

Purpose: Support community-based programs that are largely volunteer-driven or programs of nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets under $100,000. Programs must be designed to meet health, education, or social services needs of the poor and underserved.

    Geographic Scope

  • Primary: Stark County, Ohio
  • Secondary: Carroll, Holmes, Tuscarawas, and Wayne counties in Ohio

    Eligibility

  • Community-based programs that are largely volunteer-driven
  • Nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets under $100,000
  • Programs addressing health, education, or social services needs
  • Must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or governmental entity
  • Programs/services must align with Foundation's mission
  • Must comply with local, state, and federal laws

    What Will NOT Be Funded

  • Salaries, stipends, or other forms of compensation
  • Annual events or one-time efforts with no lasting benefit
  • Same program for more than four consecutive years (unless receiving substantial ongoing support from other sources)
  • Annual appeals or membership drives
  • Capital requests
  • Computers
  • Debt reduction
  • Endowments
  • Grants to individuals
  • One-time events not part of ongoing program
  • Ongoing operating costs for free medical and dental clinics
  • Scholarships
  • Vehicles

How to Apply

Application Process

Step 1: Verify Eligibility

  • Confirm organization is 501(c)(3) nonprofit or governmental entity

  • Verify location within service area (Stark County primary; Carroll, Holmes, Tuscarawas, Wayne counties secondary)

  • Ensure programs/services align with Foundation's mission

  • Confirm compliance with local, state, and federal laws
  • Step 2: Review Restrictions

  • Verify request does not fall under prohibited funding categories
  • Step 3: Submit Letter of Inquiry (LOI)

  • Complete LOI form through online system

  • Submit through online portal

  • Response received within two weeks

  • Forms accepted and reviewed on rolling basis

  • Important: LOI must be submitted within 90 days of starting, or information will be deleted
  • Step 4: Full Application (if invited)

  • Complete full application form through online system

  • Provide detailed project information
    • Submission Timeline

      Rolling Basis with Quarterly Decision Points:
    • LOI Due: November 1, February 1, May 1, August 1
    • Application Due: December 1, March 1, June 1, September 1
    • Grant Decisions: March, June, September, December
