Background: George Howard spent 35 years as a college rodeo coach, including positions as:

  • Assistant coach at Dodge City Community College

  • Assistant coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University

  • Head coach at University of Wyoming
  • His teams qualified for the CNFR every year, and he coached:

  • 7 national championship teams

  • 27 individual national champions
  • Award Purpose: Support for senior athletes completing their college education while competing in rodeo

    Eligibility:

  • College rodeo athletes

  • Preference for seniors or students nearing graduation

  • NIRA members
  • Geographic Scope: United States - all NIRA members eligible

    Example Recipients: Senior athletes majoring in ranch management, public relations, mass communication, and related fields
