Overview

G. Gerald Hendley Family Scholarship

Geographic Scope: Wilkes County, North Carolina

Eligible Schools: Students and graduates of East Wilkes, North Wilkes, West Wilkes, Wilkes Central, and Wilkes Early College High School

Eligibility: Applicants must be pursuing careers in medical-related fields

Award Amount: Approximately $75,000 awarded annually; individual awards vary depending on application and interview skills. No predetermined number of scholarship winners.

Selection Criteria:

  • Grade point average (GPA)

  • American College Testing (ACT)

  • Rank in class

  • Community involvement

  • Extracurricular activities

  • Curriculum choice leading to a profession in the medical field

  • Character

  • Demonstrated leadership ability

  • Demonstrated communication skills through interview

  • Financial need (considered when other criteria are equal)

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills through interview and formal writing sample

    - Major must be MEDICAL FIELD related

    4. Notification: Recipients will be notified by mail

    • No SAT or ACT scores required
