Employee & Dependent Scholarship Program

Funder: University of Nebraska

Purpose: Tuition assistance for full-time and retired employees who wish to continue their education, and for their spouses and dependent children.

Employee Scholarship Program

#### Eligibility

  • All regular full-time (1.00 F.T.E.) employees of the University

  • All retired employees of the University who have met normal retirement regulations

  • Employees must be admitted students of the University and must have met all normal academic requirements for courses taken

  • NOT available to: Employees on leave of absence without pay; Employees whose anticipated employment period is less than six months
  • #### Terms and Conditions

  • Normally, employees will enroll in classes held during non-working hours

  • If courses are not scheduled during non-working hours, employee hours may be rearranged (with appropriate approvals) to accommodate enrollment
  • Dependent Scholarship Program

    #### Eligibility
    All University of Nebraska employees who meet the Employee Scholarship Program employment eligibility conditions may transfer all or part of their employee scholarship benefit to spouse or dependent children.

    Dependent Child Definition: Any naturally born child, legally adopted child, stepchild, or ward of an employee who:

  • Is unmarried and under 24 years of age

  • Is chiefly dependent on the employee for support (claimed as dependent for tax purposes)
  • Spouse Definition: Employee's husband or wife as recognized by the laws of the State of Nebraska

    #### Benefits

  • Up to 15 credit hours per year (August through July) may be transferred to spouse or dependent child

  • Tuition equal to University's resident tuition charge per semester credit hour at campus of attendance

  • Maximum 9 credit hours per semester per dependent

  • Retired employees may also apply dependent scholarship program
  • #### Dependent Restrictions

  • Limited to undergraduate academic credit courses only

  • Full-time student enrollment status required for dependent children (not required for spouse)

  • Dependents must pay all normal admission, matriculation fees, lab fees, course fees, UPFF fees, and usual course-related costs (books, supplies)

  • Dependents eligible for other scholarship plans must use those first; this program covers the difference up to maximum

  • Affidavit required to document dependent status

  • University reserves right to request tax returns and supporting documentation
  • #### Employment Termination Clause

  • If employee resigns and resignation effective date occurs within 30 days after classes commence, employee will be billed for dependent tuition

    - Click on the "Employee Self Service" tile

    3. Find Scholarship Section
    - Scroll down to the "Employee & Dependent Scholarship" tile (under the "ESS Benefits" section)

    4. Follow Instructions
    - Follow the on-screen instructions to complete registration
