Emerging Scholars Award Grant

The Emerging Scholars Award, offered by the Civitan International Research Center, provides crucial funding for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows engaged in neurodevelopmental research. This initiative aims to enhance understanding of brain development and related disorders. Proposals are invited from UAB campus for innovative research projects that explore normal and abnormal brain development, cognition, and the impact of environmental toxins. This program is supported by generous donations and matching funds from various organizations.

Pilot Grant and Travel Award Programs
We support neurodevelopment research through the following pilot grant and award programs.
The Emerging Scholar Award provides research funding for clinical or basic science research related to brain development for trainees at the graduate student and postdoctoral fellow levels. The Emerging Scholars Awards are made possible by donations from Civitan International, matching funds from the Foundation for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and UAB’s University-wide Interdisciplinary Research Centers (UWIRC) program.
Proposals for the Emerging Scholars program are requested from across the UAB campus for clinical or basic science research projects aimed at enhancing our current understanding of normal and abnormal brain development, cognition, autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and mental retardation, or the effects of exposure to environmental toxins on the development of the brain.

Eligibility

Must be a graduate student or a postdoctoral fellow trainee.Must be engaged in clinical or basic science research related to brain development.
