Overview
Foundation for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (FCIDD)
Foundation for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered with the State of Maryland.
What We Do
Since 2004, FCIDD has supported non-profit organizational I/DD programs with more than $3,000,000 in grant funds, and over $4,000,000 in clinical and project research at the Civitan International Research Center.
About Us
The Civitan International Research Center (CIRC) is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to improving lives through neurodevelopmental research and the prevention and treatment of developmental disabilities.
The mission of the Civitan International Research Center is to improve the well-being and the quality of life of individuals and families affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities.
FCIDD McNulty Scientist Award
The UAB Civitan International Research Center offers $75,000 per year for three years through the FCIDD McNulty Scientist Award for interdisciplinary research focused on neurodevelopmental disorders. This initiative targets UAB faculty at any level and encourages collaborations across at least two university departments.
Projects should advance understanding in areas such as brain development, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, and related neurodevelopmental conditions.
What We Do
The Foundation provides financial support to mission-appropriate non-profit agencies who partner with their local FCIDD Participating Clubs to submit a grant for programmatic funding. The Foundation also supports research for I/DD through their support of the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
The FCIDD McNulty Scientist Award is given by the Foundation each year in honor of Tommy McNulty and his family, who pioneered research and outreach efforts for developmental disabilities. Tom and Mary McNulty and their son Tommy were the driving force behind the creation of the Civitan International Research Center, housed in the University of Alabama, Birmingham School of Medicine.
Funding Priorities
FCIDD accepts grant requests in partnership with FCIDD Participating Clubs of 501(c)(3) organizations supporting children and adults with intellectually and/or developmental disabilities. Research is funded solely through annual gifts to the Civitan International Research Center (CIRC) in Birmingham, Alabama. Each year, a research project by an interdisciplinary team of researchers is selected to receive a three-year FCIDD McNulty Scientist Award.
Grants will be awarded for the purpose of primarily benefiting, including, or increasing accessibility for individuals with intellectual or development disabilities.
