Their signature (digital signatures are permissible) must be included on the cover sheet of the proposal.

Overview

The Council of Conferences Outreach Grants, offered by the Association for Asian Studies, provide up to $3,000 to enhance education in Asian Studies. These grants aim to improve understanding of Asia among K-12 educators and the general public. Successful projects include workshops and teaching material development. Note that funding is only available for 2026 conferences, and proposals must be approved by designated outreach coordinators to be eligible.

NOTE: Funds are not available for 2025 CoC grants. Only applications for 2026 conferences will be considered at this time.AAS Council of Conferences (COC) Outreach Grants of up to $3,000 are made available to encourage education in Asian Studies. The goal of the grants is to improve understanding of Asia among K-12 educators, community college instructors, minority-serving institutions, or the general public.
Previously successful projects have included the organization of workshops and panels in conjunction with AAS Regional Conferences, the preparation of teaching materials, the compilation of source books, etc.
The COC encourages organizers of outreach activities to use, as appropriate, the resources available in the AAS teaching journal, Education About Asia. The use of grant money for registration waivers as a means of attracting annual conference attendance is not a high priority. Receipt of grant money does not preclude regional conferences from using other resources for this purpose.
AAS grants take the form of reimbursement rather than payment in advance, and only after workshop completion and COC grant report and reimbursement form/receipt submission.
