      Eligible Activities

      The fund supports programs such as:
    • Poetry slams
    • Classroom libraries
    • Book clubs
    • Teacher training
    • Programs recording incarcerated parents and children reading together
    • Diverse and culturally relevant books accessible to all children

      Eligibility

    • Community-based organizations
    • Organizations organizing access to and passion around reading and books, at home and at school
    • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations (implied by W-9 requirement)

      Award Information

    • Standard grants: Up to $2,500
    • Larger requests: Amounts over $2,500 require direct contact with Margo Lazar

    Application Process

    1. Obtain Guidelines: Access grant guidelines and application from bookstockmi.org/bookstock-fund-guidelines/

    2. Complete Application Form with the following required information:
    - Organization Name
    - Contact Person Name
    - Telephone Number
    - Organization Address
    - Project Title
    - Total Amount Requested

    3. Narrative Responses (maximum 2 pages, answer concisely):
    - Background Information about Organization and Mission: Brief description including mission statement, organizational priorities, and impact on literacy
    - Project Information:
    - Project title and description
    - Rationale for proposed project
    - Explanation of why program is important to target population/community
    - Number of people to be served
    - Duration of project
    - How program addresses at least one aspect of literacy (reading, writing, communication skills, or STEAM)
    - Funding Request: Specify amount requested
    - Outcomes:
    - Describe outcome/benefit to project participants and/or organization
    - Explain methods for measuring success and impact over grant period

    4. Required Attachments:
    - Organizational budget
    - Program budget
    - List of other funding sources (if applicable)
    - W-9 Form

    5. Submit Application:
