Overview: The Community Foundation awards grants to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations and government agencies serving the Dan River Region to improve the lives of people and communities.

Geographic Scope

Serving Danville, VA and the counties of Pittsylvania and Halifax, VA; and Caswell County, NC.

Funding Areas

The Foundation awards grants in the following areas:
• Animal services
• Arts and culture
• Community development
• Health and wellness
• Education and youth
• Human services
• Emergency services

Eligibility

• Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in good standing
• Approved government entities
• Serving the Dan River Region (Danville, VA; Pittsylvania County, VA; Halifax County, VA; Caswell County, NC)

Funding Sources

Grants are derived from multiple fund types including:
• Community Impact Fund (unrestricted funds)
• Field of Interest Funds
• Donor Advised Funds
• Pass Through Funds

Timeline

• June 1: Grant Cycle Opens
• Last Friday in July: Grant Cycle Closes
• October – November: Some organizations contacted to host a site visit
• December: Grantees Notified
• January: Grants Awarded
