Child Care Stabilization Grant Program

Status: Active/Transitioning (being replaced by Great Start Compensation Support)

Geographic Scope: Minnesota

Purpose: Direct payments to licensed child care programs for operational support and compensation

Program History:

  • Began April 2020 in response to COVID-19 pandemic

  • First time Minnesota offered immediate, government-funded support across all licensed child care programs

  • Being transitioned to Great Start Compensation Support Program with $42.5 million allocated for seamless transition

  • 96% of providers said grants were helpful in keeping programs open and operating

  • 70% used grants to provide bonus pay

  • 64% used grants to increase hourly wages

  • 84% said grants were helpful in retaining staff

  • 61% said grants helped attract new staff
