Category C Grant Program

Program Type: Organizations that promote diversity in the legal profession or support education about the law

Geographic Scope: Oregon statewide

Funding Allocation: Between 0% and 10% of OLF's annual funding is reserved for Category C grantees.

Eligible Organizations: Organizations focused on:

  • Promoting diversity in the legal profession

  • Supporting education about the law

  • Public understanding of the legal process

  • Legal education for students and communities

  • Recruitment and retention programs for underrepresented populations in the legal field
  • 2026 Category C Grantees Include:

  • Portland State University's Explore the Law Program - $25,000

  • Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC) - $25,000

  • Civics Learning Project (formerly Classroom Law Project) - $15,000

  • GLAD (Grupo Latino de Acción Directa) - $12,500

  • Opportunities for Law in Oregon (OLIO) - $10,000
  • Funding Source: Interest generated on lawyer trust accounts (IOLTA) and partnership with Oregon banks

    Payment Schedule: Grants paid in equal installments in the third month of each quarter: March, June, September, and December

  • How to Apply

    Application Process for Category C Grantees

    For New & Current Grantees:
    1. August: Applications available on OLF website
    2. October 1, 2026: Deadline for submitting grant applications
    3. October: Grants Committee makes recommendations to OLF board
    4. December: OLF Board awards grants and notifies grantees

    Required Materials:

  • 2026 Category C Application for New & Current Grantees (docx)

  • 2026 Category C New & Current Grantee Application Data (xlsx)

  • Narrative report on work completed in first 8 months of previous grant year (for current grantees)
  • Reporting Requirements:

  • Narrative Report: Due with next year's application, covering first 8 months of grant year. If not reapplying, narrative due by September 30.

  • Grantee Report Form: Narrative Grantee Report (docx) for non-reapplying grantees
  • Evaluation Criteria:

  • Applications evaluated based on Grantee Standards, Guidelines outlined in Policies and Procedures (pdf)

  • Annual Grant Rubric (pdf) guides decision-making as framework for discussions rather than strict numeric grading
