Overview: A national program providing high-quality summer learning programs for K-8 children in charter schools, developed in response to COVID-related learning loss, particularly for low-income students of color.

Program Details

• Objectives: Offer engaging academic and personal enrichment for students; help students bridge pandemic learning gap; prepare students for next grade level
• Program Design: Each participating school designs unique programs tailored to school and community needs
• Academic Focus: Reading, Math, Language instruction using evidence-based methods including Direct Instruction (DI)
• Enrichment: STEM, arts, sports, chess, yoga, field trips, social-emotional learning

• City Springs Elementary/Middle School (funded 2023)
• Hampstead Hill Academy (funded 2023, 2024)
• Govans Elementary School (funded 2024)

Program Components

Typical programs include:
• Breakfast and morning academic instruction in reading and math (small group or individualized)
• Lunch and recess (45 minutes outdoor recess noted)
• Afternoon enrichment rotations (P.E., art, STEAM)
• Field trips to local attractions (museums, fire department, nature centers, sports venues)
• Staffing: Certified teachers, paras, social workers, academic coaches, administrators

• K-8 charter schools
• Competitive selection process
