About Brenda Kahn

Brenda had an extensive career with Baltimore City Public Schools and BCP, serving as a teacher, instructional coach, and Assistant Principal. She was part of the early days of implementing Direct Instruction in Baltimore City and was known for her extraordinary lesson preparation and thoughtfulness about bringing comprehension to students.

    Teachers nominated by BCP Principals must demonstrate:

  • Perseverance
  • Collegiality
  • High-quality instructional skills

  • Recipients per year: One teacher (occasionally two)
  • Cash award: $1,000
  • Additional recognition: Emblem for school to display
  • Presentation: Award presented at BCP's annual "Leading Minds: Challenging Conversations in Public Education" symposium
