BAYCC Educational Scholarship Program (BESP)

Geographic Scope: Northern California (San Francisco Bay Area anchored by San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland; Greater Sacramento area; Metropolitan Fresno area)

Focus Areas: Financial support for committed full-time students pursuing academic excellence and active community involvement

Eligibility

Who Can Apply:

  • College-bound high school seniors

  • ESL (English as Second Language) students

  • College or graduate students attending a United States accredited educational institution in Northern California

  • Must be a full-time student (at least 12 credits/approximately 4 classes per semester)

  • Must be a permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or eligible non-citizen
  • Academic Merit Requirements:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher in the U.S. for current college students

  • An entering freshman graduating from high school with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher in the U.S.

  • International entering freshman accepted to an accredited college, graduate program, or educational institution in the U.S.
  • Adherence to Hizmet Movement Principles:

  • BAYCC is inspired by the "Hizmet Movement," a faith-based social movement focused on using community service to target the elimination of poverty, ignorance, and conflicts

  • Applicant must demonstrate active volunteer participation in Hizmet Movement, including extracurricular activities such as mentoring younger students and organizing Hizmet Movement related events
  • Award Details

    • Duration: Up to nine (9) months
    • Payment Structure: Monthly installments distributed throughout a single academic year
    • Award continues as long as student maintains eligibility criteria

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Timeline:

  • Application Opened: 06/02/2025

  • Application Deadline: 07/18/2025

  • Notification of Results: 08/18/2025

  • Applications made after 07/18/2025 will be reviewed in the first week of September and once a month (first week of every month) thereafter
  • Required Documents:
    1. Resume
    2. Most recent Official Transcript or acceptance letter to an accredited educational institution in the U.S.
    3. Proof of identification
    4. I-20 Form (if applicable)
    5. Two (2) Current and Updated Recommendation Letters
    6. Essay summarizing student's opinions on BAYCC values as well as any personal information that would be helpful for the committee to make a decision for the eligibility of the student for a scholarship
    7. Any official document and/or a personal letter demonstrating the need for financial aid
