Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards

Overview: The Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards (AP Leadership Awards) has been showcasing pioneering people, organisations and projects behind the sustainable building movement across Asia since 2014. The awards are led by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), the Asia Pacific Network of Green Building Councils (GBCs), and partners across the region.

Geographic Scope: Asia Pacific region

Award Categories: The awards recognise leadership across three main award categories:

1. Business Leadership in Sustainability Award

Recognises organisations that embed sustainability and resilience into decision-making and delivery, accelerating market transformation across the built environment.

Sub-categories:

  • Business Leadership – Developer: Open to organisations whose primary role is to initiate, develop and deliver real estate and built assets, including property developers and real estate development arms of larger groups

  • Business Leadership – Industry: Open to all built environment organisations other than developers across the wider value chain, including architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, manufacturers, technology providers, asset managers, investors, occupiers, and other service providers
  • Nomination Fee: USD 400

    2. Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance Award

    Recognises pioneering building projects that set new benchmarks for performance, resilience, wellbeing and value across the building life cycle.

    Sub-categories:

  • Commercial – New Building (USD 400)

  • Commercial – Existing Building (USD 400)

  • Residential – New Building (USD 400)

  • Residential – Existing Building (USD 400)

  • Institutional – New and Existing Buildings (USD 400)
  • Project Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have been operational for at least 12 months prior to nomination

  • Must be verified by an independent third-party green building certification scheme

  • Must demonstrate sustainable design and performance aligned with WorldGBC impact areas
  • Special Mentions:

  • CDL Special Mention – Resilient Solutions by SME Suppliers: Recognises projects demonstrating how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have delivered resilience-related solutions (APN SME definition: annual turnover ≤ USD $100 million OR ≤ 200 employees). No separate nomination required.

  • Henderson Land Special Mention – Green, Innovation and People: Recognises projects demonstrating outstanding leadership across Green, Innovation and People with measurable environmental performance and meaningful outcomes for building users and communities. No separate nomination required.
  • 3. Green Building Leadership Champion

    Recognises an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to advancing green building and sustainability in the built environment across Asia Pacific. This award is open to all genders, reflecting commitment to inclusive leadership and systems change.

  • Key Impact Areas:

  • Climate Action – Advancing Net Zero: Projects should align with WorldGBC's Whole Life Carbon Vision, being highly energy-efficient, minimising embodied carbon, and achieving net zero carbon emissions

  • Health & Wellbeing: Demonstrating strategies that protect and improve occupant health, prioritise comfort, and facilitate positive social and environmental behaviour

  • Resources & Circularity: Exhibiting circularity principles such as using non-toxic, sustainably sourced materials, and maximising space efficiency
  • Eligibility: Nominations must be submitted through local Green Building Councils. Organisations can self-nominate through their local GBC.

    Nomination Process

    Timeline for 2026:

  • Nominations Open: 6 April 2026

  • Nominations Close: 26 June 2026

  • Finalists Announced: September 2026

  • Asia Pacific Awards Ceremony: 10 December 2026 in Hong Kong
  • Step-by-Step Process:

    1. Find Your Local Green Building Council: Visit the WorldGBC global GBC Directory at https://worldgbc.org to identify your local GBC

    2. Identify Your Award Category: Determine which category suits your nomination (Business Leadership in Sustainability, Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance, or Green Building Leadership Champion)

    3. Request Application Form: Contact your local GBC and request the application form for your chosen category. Your local GBC can provide guidance to ensure you meet all relevant criteria

    4. Prepare Your Nomination Package: Submit a comprehensive nomination package including:
    - Nominee's statement
    - Detailed responses to specific criteria outlined by the award
    - Evidence of alignment with WorldGBC's impact areas and strategic focus

    5. Pay Nomination Fee: Submit the required nomination fee to your local GBC:
    - Business Leadership in Sustainability: USD 400
    - Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance (each sub-category): USD 400
    - Green Building Leadership Champion: USD 200

    6. Submit Through Local GBC: Submit your completed application through your local GBC (not directly to WorldGBC)

    7. Selection and Evaluation:
    - Local GBCs review all submissions from their region
    - Each GBC submits up to five nominations across all categories – one per category
    - A panel of esteemed industry expert judges assesses each nomination against the high standards of sustainability and leadership set by the awards
