Art Scherer Memorial Crisis Grant Fund

Geographic Scope: Southeastern District (SED), LCMS Mid-Atlantic Region

Overview:
Established by MALIM in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Art Scherer Memorial Crisis Response Fund provides grants to congregations and schools facing unprecedented hardships. Named after MALIM's founding president Rev. Dr. Arthur Scherer, the fund is driven by his message of "Blessed to be a blessing."

Eligibility:

  • Lutheran congregations in the SED

  • Lutheran schools in the SED

  • Must demonstrate mission-focused projects with positive community impact

  • Funding priority given to congregations who have not yet received a grant in the current year
  • Eligible Uses:

  • Outreach activities to serve community needs

  • Feeding programs

  • Technology for live streaming worship and Bible study

  • Emergency needs arising from crisis situations (originally COVID-19 related)

  • Community outreach programs

  • Educational and worship content delivery technology
  • Funding Sources:
    Memorial contributions in honor of Rev. Dr. Arthur Scherer, plus contributions from congregations and individual donors
