ARS Friends in Research Award Grant

The ARS Friends in Research Award, funded by the American Rhinologic Society, offers $25,000 over two years to support innovative research in rhinology. Eligible candidates include members who have completed residency without significant outside funding. The award encourages early and mid-career investigators to explore diverse areas within rhinology. Recipients can publish their findings, with the society retaining first refusal rights for publication. This grant aims to foster career development in the field of rhinology.

Purpose
The purpose of this award is to support basic, translational, or clinical research projects in rhinology.
Conditions
Proposed projects may be related to any area of rhinology. Proposed project shall be approved by the candidate's department chairperson and institution. The recipient(s) shall be free to publish the results afterward, but the American Rhinologic Society shall have the right of first refusal for publication in its journal, International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology. Any presentation or publication of results supported by this award shall acknowledge the contribution of the ARS Friends in Research award.
The results of research funded by the ARS must be submitted in abstract form for consideration for presentation at a national meeting of the American Rhinologic Society. Applications must be accompanied by a letter of support from the applicant’s Department Chair verifying that the applicant will be permitted to devote an appropriate amount of time to the conduct and timely completion of the proposed research project. Applicants must obtain letters of support/understanding from all key personnel on the project.
Use of Funds
Funding may not be used for salary support for the Principal Investigator; however, up to 50% of the total budget may be requested to support assistants or other technical personnel. If university policy stipulates that a portion of this very modest award must go toward institutional indirect costs, no more than ten percent (10%) of the direct costs may be applied for indirect costs. Equipment and supplies purchased with this award become the property of the recipient institution.

Eligibility

Any member of the American Rhinologic Society who has completed residency and has not received previous, significant outside funding is eligible. Both early and mid-career investigators are encouraged to apply. ARS grants are legally awarded to the institution with which the Principal Investigator is affiliated, not to the investigator or his/her division or department.ARS Friends in Research Award is a career development award.
