The initiative promotes access to quality books and family education programs, fostering essential language and literacy development. Total funding available is $630,000.Overview
Texas Education Agency The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is the state agency that oversees primary and secondary public education. It is headed by the commissioner of education. The Texas Education Agency improves outcomes for all public school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems. TEA helps deliver education to more than 5 million students under the leadership of the commissioner of education. The TEA operational costs are supported by both state and federal funds. The Texas Education Agency administers federal and state grant awards to its subgrantees to carry out a program. Such entities include primarily school systems (referred to as local educational agencies [LEAs] in statutes), including independent school districts and charter schools; education service centers (ESCs); and, to a lesser degree, institutions of higher education (IHEs), nonprofit organizations (NPOs), and other statutorily allowable organizations. 2025-2026 Texas Reading Initiative: Birth to Kinder Continuation, Year 5 Program Purpose, Goals, and Objectives This grant will improve kindergarten readiness by providing high-quality texts, streamlined resources, and comprehensive support to families of the youngest learners in Texas. All grantees will be required to conduct a needs assessment that illustrates how they will target families that feed into districts with literacy and/or kindergarten readiness scores. This needs assessment should include how the subgrantees will use grant funds to streamline and align services, while targeting disadvantaged families and children in need of literacy interventions or other support services. Increasing access to high-quality books, supplemental learning resources, and evidence-based family education programs will promote home reading and expose children to high-quality, interactive learning experiences. Aligning the high-quality books and learning materials to the evidence-based family education programs will guide and empower families to better support their children's development of essential language and literacy skills. The total funding available for this grant is $630,000.00.Eligibility
