He served the residents of Decatur, Illinois, and surrounding communities as an orthopedic surgeon from 1970 until his retirement. Dr. Schrodt held numerous leadership positions including:
- Board of Counselors, American Board of Orthopedic Surgery
- Chairman, Crossing Healthcare Board
- President, Decatur Memorial Hospital Board

- Team physician for Millikin University sports teams for over 30 years
