NOTE: Agencies who have not previously applied for a YWHA grant (new applicants) should submit their grant applications by August 1; new applications postmarked after August 1 will not be accepted. Returning applicants should submit no later than September 1; applications postmarked after September 1 will not be accepted. Our Mission The Young Woman’s Home was established in 1877 to protect, elevate and encourage young women in Detroit. Today, the Young Woman’s Home Association advances this same mission by providing grants to non-profit agencies serving women and children primarily in Wayne County, Michigan through education, provision of basic needs and cultural enrichment programs. Every year the Young Woman's Home Association receives numerous grant requests from agencies primarily in the Detroit metropolitan area. While we wish we had the ability to fund every request, we cannot. The grants we do fund generally fall into one of three categories-- education, basic needs, and culture-- and as our mission states, we fund programs that serve women and children.
