Our Mission The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is a leader and advocate for strategic philanthropy, partnering with donors to anchor a permanent and growing endowment and making investments in the Mahoning Valley that improve the quality of life for all residents. To fulfill this mission, the Foundation will: Identify and support community based charitable purposes in the areas of arts and culture, education, community well-being, health and human services and other philanthropic interests of its donors Encourage collaborative efforts to bring diverse groups together for the benefit of the community Respond to community needs through philanthropic leadership, commitment, and compassion Demonstrate accountability and integrity in the management of resources Our History To address charitable and philanthropic needs across Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, a public charity, was incorporated in 1999 by five area trust companies and community partners. Young Philanthropist Fund Funding is available for eligible Mahoning Valley organizations. While there are no specific funding priority areas, requests should address needs of the Mahoning Valley community and its residents. Requests submitted through this application are shared with The Young Philanthropist Fund Distribution Committee for review and consideration. The Committee is comprised of members of the Mahoning Valley Young Professionals, with grants made annually from the proceeds of the 25 Under 35 Awards dinner.

Eligibility

Organizations eligible to receive grants from the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley are those determined by the IRS to be public charities. This encompasses most charitable, scientific, social service, educational, and religious organizations described in 501(c)(3) of the tax code, as well as government entities and public schools. Organizations that are not public charities may apply through a fiscal sponsor. Activities proposed by the requesting organization must directly benefit residents of Mahoning county (or the surrounding area). Grants may cover organizations' programmatic, general operating or capital needs.While there are no specific funding priority areas, requests should address needs of the Mahoning Valley community and its residents.

Ineligibility

In addition, requests from individuals and for activities to influence election campaigns are not eligible while requests for retroactive funding for projects that have been completed or will be completed prior to the grant award date are not typically supported
