The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley
In 1999, five area trust companies and community partners created The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley (CFMV) as a 501(c)(3) public charity to address charitable and philanthropic needs across Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. Our mission is to serve as a leader and advocate for strategic philanthropy, partnering with donors to anchor a permanent and growing endowment and making investments in the Mahoning Valley that improve the quality of life for all residents.
CFMV has helped individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits create more than 250 charitable funds to benefit the Mahoning Valley, resulting in more than $60 million awarded to hundreds of local charitable and educational institutions since 2000. We identify and support specific needs in the community; manage funds on behalf of numerous donors; help donors and fundholders find local causes that match their interests; and encourage and facilitate the pooling of resources between diverse groups in the community.
Emergency Grant Program
The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley offers emergency grant opportunities for eligible nonprofit organizations facing urgent funding needs. This program addresses both unforeseen events that significantly interrupt essential services and (as of May 2025) challenges related to recent unprecedented changes in federal funding. The Emergency Grant Program is always available.
Emergency Grant requests will be prioritized based on alignment with the below key pathways:
* Social Safety Net: Support for health, safety, and basic needs
* Vulnerable Communities: Aid for communities adversely impacted by policies
* Advocacy: Nonpartisan advocacy for essential social services and other community-centered needs
* Community Resilience: Programs fostering social connection, enrichment and cultural programming
Eligibility
_You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website._
* Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, churches, government agencies, and organizations working with qualified fiscal sponsors.
* Funding needs must arise from unexpected circumstances, which can include the recent unprecedented cut in federal funding; however, funding that has been frozen or lost due to changes that occur through regular legislative budgeting processes will not be eligible for consideration for these emergency grants.
