Overview
William A. Perry Scholarship Fund
Overview: Annual scholarships for high school seniors and undergraduate college students who have volunteered with the Waterfowl Festival. Established in 1997 in memory of William A. Perry, one of the Festival's founders, and his wife Betty who were instrumental in creating the "Duck Sitter" youth volunteer program.
Geographic Scope: Primarily Easton, Maryland area and surrounding region
Focus Areas: Education support for student volunteers pursuing higher education
Award History: Over $200,000 awarded to more than 100 students since establishment; 2024 awards totaled $24,000 to 14 recipients at $2,000 each
Eligibility Requirements
- Student Status: Must be a high school senior accepted to an accredited college, military academy, or trade school; OR a high school graduate currently enrolled as an undergraduate at an accredited college, military, or trade school in good standing
- Volunteer Experience: Must have volunteered significant time and service to the Waterfowl Festival within the previous 2 years
- Service Hours: Must have completed at least 10 hours of service during one Festival
- Academic Performance: Must maintain at least a B average (3.0 GPA)
- Maximum Duration: Can receive scholarship for a maximum of 5 years
- Renewals: Prior applicants and recipients may re-apply annually as long as they remain enrolled as undergraduate students and have not received funds for more than 5 years. Those applying after sophomore year must have volunteered at one or more of the last two Waterfowl Festivals

Application Process
1. Complete Application Form - Submit the William A. Perry Scholarship Application form
2. Required Supporting Materials:
- Completed essay
- Official final transcript from current school
- Any other documentation you feel warranted for scholarship review approval
3. Submission: All completed applications and supporting materials must be submitted to the Waterfowl Festival office by deadline
4. Review: Scholarship Committee evaluates all applications based on extent of volunteer service to the Waterfowl Festival
5. Notification: Scholarship recipients notified by mail in July
