Overview: This scholarship was established by Mr. Walter Byers, the first executive director of the NCAA and a long-time rancher from the Emmett, Kansas area.

    Geographic Scope

  • High school graduates from Pottawatomie, Wabaunsee, Jackson, or Nemaha counties
  • Kansas residents for at least four years prior to receipt of the scholarship
  • Can attend any college or university in the United States

    Eligibility Criteria

  • High school senior from Jackson, Nemaha, Pottawatomie or Wabaunsee counties
  • Kansas resident for at least four years prior to receipt of the scholarship
  • Grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • 3.0 GPA must be maintained in college for renewal
  • Evidence of financial need required

    Award Details

  • Scholarship may be renewed through college as long as student maintains 3.0 GPA
  • Can extend to post-graduate studies in a field other than law or veterinary medicine
  • Special consideration given to applicants with financial need
