Background

In fall 1972, Meade High School's football team achieved an undefeated season and state championship. However, in mid-October, teammate Chris Little suffered a head injury during a game and died as a result. Chris was a gifted athlete in all sports, a gifted musician, and excelled in academics. His parents, James and Nadine Little, along with school administrators, created this memorial award to honor Chris's life.

  • Two seniors annually - one female and one male student
  • Originally given to students in Academics, Athletics, and Music
  • Later expanded to include Service

Selection Criteria

Award is "Given annually to the students who generate the most enthusiasm in the areas of Academics, Athletics, and Music" (and Service).

    Scholarship Access (NEW - as of 2026)

    Beginning in 2026 and moving forward, all Chris Little award recipients will have access to scholarship funds should they have plans to formally further their education at:
  • Junior College
  • University
  • Trade School
  • Vocational College

Inspiration

The award includes a quote from Benjamin Franklin shared at Chris's funeral: "A Long Life may not be Good Enough, but a Good Life is Long Enough."
