Verma & Ed Pastor Scholarship Fund

Overview: A $1 million scholarship fund established by the Phoenix Community Development & Investment Corporation to honor the life, legacy, and positive community impacts of former Arizona Congressman Ed Pastor.

Geographic Scope: Maricopa County, Arizona

Award Amounts:

  • $2,500 for one academic year at a 2-year college/community college

  • $5,000 for one academic year at a public university

  • Each scholarship is renewable for one additional year (maximum of two awards) if students maintain good standing and required GPA
  • Eligibility Criteria:

  • Arizona resident living in Maricopa County

  • Age 26 and younger

  • High school senior, first-time college student, or re-entry student

  • Unweighted cumulative academic GPA of 2.5 or higher (must maintain)

  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA

  • Accepted into or expecting acceptance to an accredited public college or university in Maricopa County (e.g., Arizona State University or any Maricopa Community College)

  • Pursuing a certificate, associate's, or bachelor's degree

  • Must be enrolled full-time
  • Preference: High school seniors, first-time college students, and adult re-entry students ages 18-26

    Application Process

    1. Apply online through the Arizona Community Foundation scholarship portal at https://azfoundation.academicworks.com
    2. Complete all application requirements
    3. Submit by the application deadline: May 1 (annual)

    Required Materials:

  • FAFSA completion (to demonstrate financial need)

  • Proof of acceptance or expected acceptance to an accredited public college or university in Maricopa County

  • Academic records showing cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

  • Evidence of residency in Maricopa County, Arizona
  • Notes:

  • Funds are distributed directly to schools

  • Students applying by the first deadline (typically in March) will be matched with 100+ other scholarships
