Upward Bound (TRiO Program)

Target Population:

• First-generation college students
• Students from disadvantaged backgrounds
• Low-income students

Overview:
Upward Bound has been operating since 1964 and helps students prepare for and enter college. At Lake-Sumter State College, the program serves high school students from across Lake County.

Schools Served:

• Eustis High School
• Mount Dora High School
• Leesburg High School
• Tavares High School
• Umatilla High School

Program Components:

• Saturday school
• After-school tutoring
• Summer learning programs
• Four-year commitment from participating students

Impact:
Program provides students with support and resources to graduate high school and pursue postsecondary education at higher rates than local and state averages.

Related Program:
LSSC also receives an Educational Talent Search grant through TRiO programs to serve students at high schools across Lake and Sumter Counties.
