United Way Community Impact Grants

Funder: 1889 Foundation in partnership with United Way of the Southern Alleghenies

Geographic Scope: Cambria and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania

Focus Areas: High-performing non-profit organizations addressing social change in three main areas:

  • Preparing all children socially, emotionally, and academically for kindergarten

  • Increasing parental knowledge of child development and care

  • Preventing youth drug and alcohol use

  • Additional health and human services programming
  • Eligibility:

  • Non-profit organizations in Cambria and Somerset Counties

  • High-performing organizations preferred

  • Organizations must be able to articulate programs, methods, desired outcomes, and measurement of results
  • Award Amounts:

  • Large grants: $50,000 - $200,000 (for evidence-based programming addressing social change in main focus areas)

  • Smaller grants: $5,000 - $50,000 (for additional health and human services programming)
  • Program Background: 1889 Foundation has provided more than $5 million in funding since 2015 as a challenge grant to increase reach and impact. Currently, 30 programs delivered by 25 partner agencies are supported through United Way.
