UMaine Scholarship (University of Maine Surveying Engineering Technology Program)

Geographic Scope: Massachusetts residents only (based on parents' full-time residence for dependents)

Award Amount: Minimum $1,000/semester throughout undergraduate level education, up to maximum $2,000/year (maximum of two semesters/year for maximum of $8,000 or maximum $10,000 for 5-year SET-BS and MBA option)

Purpose: Scholarship for Massachusetts residents who are incoming freshmen or transfer students enrolled in the University of Maine Surveying Engineering Technology program (SET/SVT)

Program Background

The MALSCE Education Trust was founded to enhance the profession of land surveying and civil engineering in Massachusetts by providing scholarship and education grants for students of land surveying and civil engineering who are Massachusetts residents.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant must:

• Be a Massachusetts resident (based upon parents' full-time residence, if still a dependent)
• Be an incoming freshman or transfer student enrolled in the University of Maine Surveying Engineering Technology Program (SET/SVT)
• Complete and sign the application
• Give completed application to a qualified Sponsor, who will forward it with letter of recommendation to MALSCE Education Trust Chair
• Provide official transcript of all grades from previous schools (high school for incoming freshmen; college for transfer students)
• Transcripts may be sent directly from the school

Sponsor Requirements

• Sponsor must be a department head, dean, professor, or teacher with personal knowledge of applicant
• An applicant's employer may also be a sponsor
• Friends and relatives cannot be sponsors
• Sponsor must forward completed application with letter of recommendation to MALSCE Education Trust Chair by deadline

Continuation Requirements

To continue to receive the MALSCE UMaine Scholarship, the recipient must:

• Remain in the SVT program with minimum 12 credit hours per semester
• Maintain minimum GPA of 2.5 for each semester and cumulative
• Send official transcript from UMaine at end of each semester showing classes taken and grades received
• Include cover letter summarizing academic experience for the semester
• Payment by Trust will be made at end of each semester once Trustees review submitted documentation

Application Process

1. Download the application form from MALSCE website
2. Complete the application with all required information
3. Obtain a letter of recommendation from a qualified sponsor (department head, dean, professor, teacher, or employer)
4. Request official transcripts from previous school(s):
   • High school transcript for incoming freshmen
   • College transcript for transfer students
   • Transcripts can be sent directly from the school
5. Submit all materials to the MALSCE Education Trust Chair by the deadline

Required Materials

• Completed application form (signed)
• Letter of recommendation from qualified sponsor
• Official transcript(s) of all grades from previous schools

Ongoing Reporting Requirements (for scholarship recipients)

At the end of each semester:

• Official transcript from UMaine showing classes taken and grades received
• Cover letter summarizing academic experience for the semester
• Submit to: Mary Ann Corcoran, PLS, MALSCE Education Trust Chair
