Overview:
TRIO-SSS is a comprehensive student support program providing academic support, career guidance, and financial assistance to eligible students seeking associate degrees or certificates.
Eligibility Requirements (must meet ONE or MORE):
- Student whose natural or adoptive parents have not received a 4-year degree
- Student who, prior to age 18, regularly resided with and received support from only one parent, and that parent did not receive a 4-year degree
- Individual who, prior to age 18, did not regularly reside with or receive support from a natural or adoptive parent
First Generation College Student:
- Family's taxable income did not exceed 150% of the poverty level amount in the calendar year preceding participation
- Generally, if student qualifies for federal financial aid (Pell Grants), they likely meet low-income guidelines
- Must complete Income Verification Worksheet
Low Income Individual:
- Person with a disability as defined in Section 12102 of the Americans with Disabilities Act

How to Apply
Application Process
1. Complete TRIO-SSS Online Application
- Available on Mid's website
- Also available at each campus or from your Mid Mentor
2. Income Verification (if applicable)
- Complete Income Verification Worksheet if applying based on low-income status
- Required to determine eligibility under federal guidelines
3. Submit Application
- Applications accepted year-round
- Formal review: September 1 - November 30 annually
- Earlier submission encouraged
4. Review Process
- TRIO-SSS staff sub-committee reviews applications
- Final acceptance decisions documented
- TRIO reserves right to consider life circumstances and other relevant criteria
- Basic student information
- Eligibility documentation (income verification, disability documentation, parent education background, etc.)
- Academic/support service needs assessment
- Degree/certificate program information
- Academic history and GPA (if previously completed college work)
Required Information:
- Must be enrolled and seeking associate degree or certificate from Mid
- Must be TRIO-SSS participant
- Must have applied for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)
- Must be Pell eligible at Mid
- Must plan to enroll in Summer semester classes
- Must be following an academic plan
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Academic and/or career assessment required
- Attendance verified throughout funded semester
