TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS)

Overview:
TRIO-SSS is a comprehensive student support program providing academic support, career guidance, and financial assistance to eligible students seeking associate degrees or certificates.

Eligibility Requirements (must meet ONE or MORE):

    First Generation College Student:

  • Student whose natural or adoptive parents have not received a 4-year degree
  • Student who, prior to age 18, regularly resided with and received support from only one parent, and that parent did not receive a 4-year degree
  • Individual who, prior to age 18, did not regularly reside with or receive support from a natural or adoptive parent

    Low Income Individual:

  • Family's taxable income did not exceed 150% of the poverty level amount in the calendar year preceding participation
  • Generally, if student qualifies for federal financial aid (Pell Grants), they likely meet low-income guidelines
  • Must complete Income Verification Worksheet

    Individual with Disability:

  • Person with a disability as defined in Section 12102 of the Americans with Disabilities Act

Additional Admission Criteria:

  • Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • Must be certificate or degree-seeking

  • Must have academic or support service needs

  • Plan to complete certificate/degree within four years (typically minimum 9 credit hours per semester, or 12+ credit hours previously completed with 2.0+ GPA and 67%+ completion ratio)

  • Preference given to those with academic success, community/activity involvement, and/or work history
  • Services Provided:

  • Academic advising and success coaching

  • Career guidance and assessment

  • Course registration assistance

  • Summer tuition aid (eligible participants)

  • Support services throughout degree/certificate completion
  • Application Timeline:

  • Applications accepted year-round

  • Formal review and admissions decisions: September 1 - November 30 annually

  • Applications from any time of year may be considered

    Application Process

    1. Complete TRIO-SSS Online Application
    - Available on Mid's website
    - Also available at each campus or from your Mid Mentor

    2. Income Verification (if applicable)
    - Complete Income Verification Worksheet if applying based on low-income status
    - Required to determine eligibility under federal guidelines

    3. Submit Application
    - Applications accepted year-round
    - Formal review: September 1 - November 30 annually
    - Earlier submission encouraged

    4. Review Process
    - TRIO-SSS staff sub-committee reviews applications
    - Final acceptance decisions documented
    - TRIO reserves right to consider life circumstances and other relevant criteria

      Summer Aid Application (for eligible participants):

      Deadline: April 30 (annual) Requirements:
    • Must be enrolled and seeking associate degree or certificate from Mid
    • Must be TRIO-SSS participant
    • Must have applied for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)
    • Must be Pell eligible at Mid
    • Must plan to enroll in Summer semester classes
    • Must be following an academic plan
    • Must demonstrate financial need
    • Academic and/or career assessment required
    • Attendance verified throughout funded semester
