TMEF Medical School Scholarships

Overview: The Tennessee Medical Education Fund, Inc. (TMEF) is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation created by the Tennessee Medical Association in 1963 to provide scholarships to medical students in Tennessee medical schools, residents and physicians in medical school or practicing medicine in Tennessee.

    • Eligibility Requirements

    • Must be a citizen of the United States
    • Must be a legal resident of the state of Tennessee as certified by the medical school in which enrolled
    • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited medical school within the state of Tennessee (newly accepted students for the next academic year are not eligible to apply)
    • Provide documentation of financial need to pursue a course of study in medicine by meeting Federal Unsubsidized William D. Ford Loan eligibility requirements
    • Must be a member of the Tennessee Medical Association

    How to Apply

    1. Login to Member Portal: Student TMA members need to log in to their member info hub portal by clicking the "Apply Here" button on the TMEF Scholarships page
    2. Locate Application Link: Applicants will find the link on the Home page (right under "Click here to go to TMA's website" / before the instructional video)
    3. Complete Application: Submit application through the online portal with required information
    4. Financial Need Documentation: Provide documentation meeting Federal Unsubsidized William D. Ford Loan eligibility requirements

      Timeline for 2026-27 Scholarship Cycle

    • January 12, 2026: Scholarship application opens
    • February 20, 2026: Preliminary report to schools on applicants
    • March 20, 2026: Preliminary report to schools on applicants (updated)
    • April 13, 2026: Application closes
    • April 15, 2026: Student applicant information sent to each school; schools complete Financial Aid information for each student
    • April 27, 2026: Completed Financial Aid information due from schools to TMA/TMEF (email to annika.sleenhof@tnmed.org)
    • May 2026: TMEF Board of Directors meets to award scholarships
    • May/June 2026: Schools and selected students notified of scholarship awards; students receive award letters via email
    • June 2026: First distribution checks to schools – 50% of total award value
    • December 2026: Second distribution checks to schools – 50% of total award value
