Overview

Background The Momentum Maker grant was established thanks to a generous gift from the Thiru Family Trust. The Foundation shares with the Thiru Family Trust the commitment to inspiring new paths to mental health and well-being in Arizona. Each year, this special grant identifies a specific area of mental health-related need— then awards a single grant of resources and funding valued at $75,000 to address this need. Momentum Maker grant funding helps grantees build capacity, innovate, test proof of concept, or expand early-stage projects that address our state’s most urgent mental health challenges. Focus Area This year, the Momentum Maker grant is focused on improving mental health in schools. We recognize that the pandemic and school safety issues have created unprecedented stress, anxiety, and uncertainty for students, teachers, and staff in Arizona. Award Information We’ve designed a grant package with three dimensions of support valued at $75,000: Expert guidance provided by a local community partner to offer support regarding policies, practices, and guidance to bolster well-being and resilience.Trainings and skill-building sessions (e.g., mindfulness, well-being promotion, etc.) provided by a local community partner expert in building teacher and staff capacity that strengthens their mental health.$25,000 that the grantee determines how best to use for mental health activities that address school needs.
