Overview

Community Foundation of the Lowcountry In 1994, a group of visionary Lowcountry community leaders recognized the need to create a community foundation. Through the sale of the nonprofit Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head Island Foundation, Inc. was born, with a mission to provide philanthropic leadership to a growing community. In 2001, our service area expanded to include northern Beaufort County, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper Counties. To reflect this, our name changed to Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. With more than $125 million invested in the Lowcountry area since 1994, Community Foundation of the Lowcountry is the largest source of unrestricted philanthropic resources dedicated to Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper Counties. Throughout our history, we have expanded our services, undertaken important initiatives and altered our course to ensure we’re serving the needs of the Lowcountry. We provide donors and nonprofits the steadfast philanthropic leadership to transform, empower and enhance the communities we serve. Our positive impact is achieved by bringing together financial resources, knowledge and collaborative networks to serve community needs. The Douglas K. Fletcher Scholarship The Douglas K. Fletcher Scholarship was created to fund supplies, equipment and textbooks needed by students to be successful in a college program. The scholarship is supported by the Douglas K. Fletcher Scholarship Fund which provides support for qualified applicants attending the University of South Carolina Beaufort or the Technical College of the Lowcountry.

Eligibility

Applicant must be a resident of Beaufort, Hampton, Jasper, Colleton counties of the Lowcountry in South Carolina.Applicant must be the first in the family to attend college.Applicant must be enrolled as a full time student at the University of South Carolina Beaufort or the Technical College of the Lowcountry, and taking a minimum of 12 hours per semester.Applicant must have completed a minimum of 42.000 credit hours, comprised of at least 34.000 passed hours and can also include up to 8.000 transfer hours.Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
