About the Scholarship
The Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association (AzLTA) awards one student annually with The Doug Yonko Memorial Scholarship in memory of Doug Yonko's service and commitment to Arizona. Doug was a distinguished community leader with a 40-year career at Hensley Beverage Company and extensive involvement in professional and community organizations including the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, Phoenix Thunderbird Charities, and Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association. AzLTA honors his legacy through an annual golf tournament and this scholarship program.- Enrollment: Must be enrolled in a hospitality, hotel, restaurant, culinary arts, or tourism program at a two or four-year degree-granting Arizona community college or university
- Credit Hours: Enrolled in at least 9 units at the time of application
- Academic Performance: Must have earned a 3.75 overall GPA for all completed courses

- Notification via email by AzLTA Education Committee
- Payments made by check sent directly to the college or university
- Requires current registration, transcript, and class schedule of at least 9 units for payment

How to Apply
Application Requirements & Process
Application Form: Must be completed and submitted with all required attachments
Required Documents:
1. Resume - Current resume of education, work experience, and other relevant information
2. Essay - Brief essay of up to 500 words describing your personal background, including answers to:
- Why do you think the hospitality or tourism industry is the right career choice for you?
- How will this scholarship help you achieve your career objectives and future goals?
- Describe a situation in which you faced adversity in hospitality and how you overcame it
3. Transcript - Copy of transcript of classes completed and grades at your current school and classes currently being taken (may be downloaded from school website)
4. Photo - Digital photo/headshot in .jpeg or .png format for use in publicity
5. Photo Release Form - Signed photo release form (available for download)
6. Optional Recommendation - Written recommendation from General Manager or operating officer of a lodging or tourism place of employment
Submission Format: All documents must be submitted together with completed application form
Award Notification: AzLTA Education Committee will notify applicant via email; a subsequent phone call may be scheduled
Payment Requirements: Upon award, must provide current registration, transcript, and class schedule of at least 9 units for payment processing
