Overview

Sustainable Ct Inc Sustainable CT is a nonprofit organization based in Connecticut that offers a voluntary certification program for municipalities. Founded through a collaborative, grassroots effort involving all of Connecticut’s towns and cities, Sustainable CT provides a menu of sustainability actions—ranging from clean energy and climate resiliency to equity and inclusive planning—to help communities thrive. The program supports municipalities with training, technical assistance, and grant funding, enabling towns to implement actionable practices and earn certification recognition. The organization’s mission is to foster inclusive, resilient, and vibrant Connecticut municipalities where all residents can thrive, by providing tools that build local economies, support equity, and respect the environment. Its vision is centered on innovation, collaboration, and respect for the natural foundation of health and community well-being. Sustainable CT prioritizes equity-oriented strategies and supports towns of any size in building long-term sustainability, facilitating projects that improve civic engagement, affordable housing, economic opportunity, and environmental health. Sustainable CT Fellowship Program The Sustainable CT Fellowship Program places highly qualified fellows across the state’s Councils of Governments (COGs) to help cities and towns become registered, certified, or recertified with Sustainable CT during the summer. The COGs serve as Connecticut’s regional planning organizations and are Connecticut’s& county-equivalent. Fellows will assist cities and towns within the various COG territories on researching and documenting their sustainability work, support municipalities on sustainability initiatives, and assist on COG projects that align with Sustainable CT goals. Fellows will also have the opportunity to work with one another on a group project addressing a statewide sustainability topic. Fellows will gain valuable experience working within a professional setting and will be directly engaged in supporting cutting-edge ;sustainability initiatives, local government operations, and regional coordination and operation. Fellows will build a deep professional network that spans across local, state and regional government, as well as with nonprofits and organizations supporting sustainability initiatives in the state of Connecticut.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary degree program or must have graduated in the most recent academic year (2025-2026).Students must be either enrolled in a Connecticut college or university or be a permanent resident of the state.Students must be located in the state of Connecticut for the duration of the fellowship. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.Students must have maintained a GPA of 3.0. Students of all majors will be considered.
