City of Boston Parks and Recreation We create and maintain clean, green, safe, and accessible open space in more than 2,200 acres of park land throughout Boston. Sunflower Beautification Grant This grant program is for sunflower planting and other projects for environmental conservation and beautification purposes. Grant Program Description The Sunflower Beautification Grant is designed to support highly-visible, sustainable, community-led projects that enhance public spaces through the planting of sunflowers and other beautification projects. The program aims to foster environmental stewardship, neighborhood pride, and accessible green spaces that bring beauty and biodiversity to local communities. Projects must demonstrate long-term maintenance plans, public accessibility, and strong community engagement. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and community groups that can demonstrate a clear plan for implementation, community engagement, and long-term care of the planted areas. By investing in these initiatives, the program seeks to create welcoming outdoor spaces, strengthen community connections, and support pollinator habitats throughout the City. The scope of work covers any highly visible beautification or infrastructure project that will make a long-lasting or permanent impact to a neighborhood. Approved projects receive grants ranging from $5,000 to $9,999 for improvements to neighborhood open spaces. Mandatory projects include: Sunflower Planting Potential projects include: Professional landscaping improvements/plantings with maintenance plan Installation or restoration of benches, murals, or public art Community gardens, pollinator habitats, or native plantings Installation of compost bins Property cleanups including graffiti removal and waste removal costs. Stormwater management features or rain garden Educational signage promoting environmental awareness Requirements All projects must be publicly and visually accessible from a public way Property owner approval is required. Proposed projects cannot be on City owned property.

Eligibility
