Summer Grant Cycle- Earl D. and Carrie Leigh Doran Fund

The Earl D. and Carrie Leigh Doran Fund, managed by the Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia, supports individuals and families facing catastrophic circumstances, particularly aiding organizations that assist battered women. Established in 1988, this fund focuses on providing grants to local organizations in Martinsville, Roanoke, and Salem, as well as surrounding counties. The foundation emphasizes flexibility and community impact, ensuring support for initiatives that address urgent social needs.

Community foundations began nationally in 1914 and are publicly-supported, 501(c)(3) philanthropic organizations that hold, administer, invest and make grants from both endowed and non-endowed funds established by individuals, families and others.
Today, we administer many hundreds of named endowment funds ranging in size from a minimum of $10,000 to millions of dollars.

Eligibility

Who is Eligible to Receive a Grant from the Foundation?Organizations located in, and serving Cities of Martinsville, Roanoke and Salem, and the counties of Botetourt, Craig, Franklin, Henry, Patrick, and RoanokeFoundation grants are usually awarded for the accomplishment of a definite purpose within a specified time period - normally not more than one year.

What Does the Foundation Typically Not Support?The Foundation's discretionary funds typically do not support deficit reduction, capital campaigns or endowments, fundraising events, sectarian, fraternal or religious programs, or individuals.
