Overview

Maine Community Foundation Founded in 1983, the Maine Community Foundation brings people and resources together to build a better Maine through strategic giving, community leadership, personalized service, local expertise and strong investments. The Maine Community Foundation established its first scholarship fund in 1984. Now, through the generosity of individuals, community organizations, and businesses that believe in the importance of education, the community foundation awards more than $3 million each year from nearly 700 scholarship funds. MaineCF scholarships provide financial assistance for Maine residents attending accredited colleges, universities, technical and career schools. The funds also support students attending private high schools, camps, and experiential learning programs. Stephen L. Ross Scholarship Fund The Stephen L. Ross Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Stephen L. Ross, son of Lewis and Geraldine Ross and resident of Chebeague Island, killed in an automobile accident in 1964. The fund provides scholarship support to obtain education or training beyond high school to a graduating high school senior or a student enrolled in the first year of post-secondary education or training. In 2014 the Board of Directors voted to establish a special award honoring the service of long time fund president, Kenneth Hamilton. The Kenneth Hamilton Education Award will be awarded from time to time for those students entering the field of education, in their 3rd or 4th year of post-secondary education.
