Sparrow Future Charitable Fund

Overview: An education fund for children (under 21) in China whose parents are human rights activists or human rights lawyers.

Background: Established by filmmaker Nanfu Wang in 2013 after making the documentary "Hooligan Sparrow." Wang observed that children of Chinese human rights activists lacked financial support and education opportunities. Inspired by her own experience as a teenager from a remote village in China without access to higher education, she created this fund to provide opportunities for these children to pursue education.

  • Lan Yaxin (daughter of women's rights activist Ye Haiyan, aka "Sparrow")

  • Bao Zhuoxuan (son of human rights lawyer Wang Yu and Bao Long Jun)

  • Deng Jia Yu (daughter of human rights activist Deng Chuanbin, aka "Huang")

  • Deng Jia Yin (son of human rights activist Deng Chuanbin)
  • Selection Process: Future recipients will be selected by the board of Humanitarian China and the Hooligan Sparrow film team.

    Organization: Donations are made through Humanitarian China, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in California.

    Reporting: Quarterly donation and distribution reports are published.
