Overview

Soil and Water Outcomes Fund

Overview: A partnership program between AgOutcomes (subsidiary of Iowa Soybean Association) and ReHarvest Partners (subsidiary of Quantified Ventures) that provides payments to farmers for environmental outcomes of conservation practices, rather than for practice implementation alone.

Geographic Scope:

  • Primary focus: 49 counties in central and southern Indiana: Bartholomew, Brown, Clark, Clay, Crawford, Daviess, Dearborn, Decatur, Dubois, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Gibson, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Harrison, Hendricks, Henry, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Martin, Monroe, Morgan, Ohio, Orange, Owen, Perry, Pike, Posey, Putnam, Ripley, Rush, Scott, Shelby, Spencer, Sullivan, Switzerland, Union, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Washington, and Wayne

  • Multi-state eligibility: Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia
  • Focus Areas:

  • Water quality improvements

  • Carbon sequestration

  • Soil health enhancement

  • Environmental outcomes verification and monetization
  • Eligible Conservation Practices:

  • No-till or reduced tillage

  • Cover crops

  • Extended crop rotations

  • Diversified revenue streams
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Farmers and landowners in eligible counties

  • Must implement new conservation practices

  • Farmers currently using no-till and cover crops must add at least one additional conservation practice

  • No acre cap per farmer
  • Payment Structure:

  • 50% payment in spring (to help with seed costs)

  • 50% payment in winter after outcomes and practices are verified

  • Amount varies based on soil types, baseline practices, and number of practices implemented

  • Outcomes are sold to beneficiaries including corporations seeking to offset greenhouse gas emissions, municipal water utilities, and state/federal agricultural departments
  • Contract Terms:

  • One-year contracts

  • Farmers can re-enroll acres if willing to continue and include more practices

    Application Process

    1. Visit enrollment website: www.theoutcomesfund.com/enroll

    2. Determine eligible fields: Break down operation field-by-field to identify which fields are candidates for new conservation practices

    3. Select conservation practices: Choose from eligible practices:
    - No-till or reduced tillage
    - Cover crops
    - Extended crop rotations
    - Other soil and water conservation practices

    4. Propose practices to Fund advisors: Fund will estimate environmental outcomes based on proposed practices

    5. Implementation: Implement approved conservation practices on enrolled acres

    6. Verification: Fund verifies outcomes and practices are completed

    7. Payment: Receive verified outcome payments
    - 50% in spring
    - 50% in winter
