NOTE: Applicants will be notified of the Committee's decision within 90 days of the application. About Sigma Xi Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society is the international honor society of science and engineering. One of the oldest and largest scientific organizations in the world, Sigma Xi has a distinguished history of service to science and society for more than one hundred and twenty five years. Scientists and engineers, whose research spans the disciplines of science and technology, comprise the membership of the Society. Sigma Xi chapters can be found at colleges and universities, government laboratories, and industry research centers around the world. More than 200 Nobel Prize winners have been members. Sigma Xi was founded in 1886 to honor excellence in scientific investigation and encourage a sense of companionship and cooperation among researchers in all fields of science and engineering. The Greek letters "sigma" and "xi" form the acronym of the Society's motto, "Spoudon Xynones," which translates as "Companions in Zealous Research." Diversity Grant Sigma Xi is committed to the diversity of its membership, programs, and the broader scientific and engineering research community. The Society encourages participation of individuals from groups that are historically underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by promoting active engagement of the full diversity of the membership. The Diversity Program Grant provides up to $1,000 in ‘seed funding’ for chapters to initiate innovative diversity programs which promote inclusion of individuals from underrepresented groups. Diversity may reflect gender, race and ethnicity, mental or physical disability, socioeconomic status, age, religious affiliation, cultural background, national origin, or sexual orientation. Applicants are encouraged to collaborate with other Sigma Xi chapters or identify matching support from other resources that can enhance the effectiveness of their proposed initiatives. Grants are normally awarded for new projects as a one-time source of support.Eligibility
