About the Award The Forest Science award was established in 1996 to recognize outstanding research in forestry sciences other than biology. This award was specifically created to focus on quantitative, economic, managerial and social sciences and to distinguish the Forest Science award from the Barrington Moore Memorial Award in Biological Science. Some fields of research like silviculture, agroforestry, or biometrics could be eligible for either award, but the focus of the Award in Forest Science is on the managerial or quantitative sciences aspects of those fields rather than the biological sciences aspects of those fields.
