We put philanthropy into action to address the needs, rights and interests of our region, while fulfilling the passions of our donors. About Our Scholarships Since 1983, the Community Foundation has awarded over $11.9 million in scholarships from 136 funds established by generous individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits to help area students pursue an education and establish rewarding careers. Ruben Elijah Reiser Johnson Scholarship Ruben Elijah Reiser Johnson was an honor roll student at New London Science & Technology Magnet High School. He was a passionate photographer with a sharp eye for composition and a gifted artist whose work was displayed at the Hygenic Art Gallery. Ruben was a trend setter and very fashion forward. He loved to be in front of the camera and helped operationalize the TV Production Studio at STMHS. He aspired to attend art school in NYC and work in the fashion industry. Ruben passed away June 21, 2011 after a short but courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 16. For graduating high school seniors and current college students from New London County who are studying art, with a preference for the visual arts.
