Overview

About Us The Community Foundation brings people together to work towards a healthy, thriving, sustainable Eastern Connecticut. We put philanthropy into action to address the needs, rights and interests of our region, while fulfilling the passions of our donors. About Our Scholarships Since 1983, the Community Foundation has awarded over $11.9 million in scholarships from 136 funds established by generous individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits to help area students pursue an education and establish rewarding careers. Jake T. Watson Memorial Scholarship Established by the friends and family of Jake T. Watson, who passed away at the age of 25 from injuries resulting from a fall. Jake was raised in Mystic and graduated from Robert E. Fitch High School. He went on to work shoveling snow, landscaping, and trimming trees. His work for a tree cutting service led to his passion for climbing and motivated him to start his own business, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. Jake lived and loved life without fear. His passion for climbing and tree cutting was fed by a love of the outdoors and a willingness to do everything 150%. For living such a short life, he lived it big and unafraid. The fund provides scholarships to students who are pursuing post-secondary studies at any accredited college, university, technical school, or other accredited educational program to pursue a career in tree work, forestry, arboriculture or an environmental field, and have financial need.
