ROTC/JROTC Outstanding Cadet Award

Organization: Sons of the American Revolution Foundation

Geographic Scope: United States

Eligibility:

JROTC Bronze Medal Program:

  • JROTC Unit members

  • Provided by local SAR chapters for unit-level presentation
  • JROTC Enhanced Program:

  • Must be enrolled in 3rd year of 4-year JROTC Program OR 2nd year of 3-year JROTC Program (must be junior)

  • Must be in Top 10% of JROTC Class

  • Must be in Top 25% of High School Class

  • Must submit 500-700 word original essay on designated topic

  • Recommendations required from Senior Military Instructor and Principal
  • Focus Areas:

  • "Citizen-soldier" principle as exemplified by American Revolution's Minuteman

  • Leadership potential

  • Military bearing

  • Scholastic achievement
  • Award Levels:

  • Unit level: SAR Bronze ROTC Medal

  • Enhanced Program: Chapter, State, and National level competitions
  • JROTC Endowment Medal:

  • Recognizes significant financial contributions to JROTC Endowment Fund or Service Academies Awards Fund

  • Qualification: Minimum $1,000 donation (may be given over 5-year period)

  • Bronze oak leaf cluster for additional $1,000 donations

  • Silver oak leaf cluster for sixth $1,000 donation

  • Medal suspended from red and silver drape

  • Available in full size and miniature

  • Donors at $1,000 and up honored at Donor Awards Breakfast

    How to Apply

    JROTC Bronze Medal Program:
    1. Nomination by JROTC Unit
    2. Presentation at unit level by local SAR chapter

    JROTC Enhanced Program:
    1. Cadet must submit:
    - Application form
    - 500-700 word original essay on designated topic
    - Recommendation from Senior Military Instructor
    - Recommendation from Principal
    2. Must meet eligibility criteria (3rd year of 4-year or 2nd year of 3-year program, top 10% JROTC, top 25% high school)
    3. Submit through chapter level
    4. Chapter winners advance to state level
    5. State winners advance to national competition

    JROTC Endowment Medal Contribution:
    1. Make donation of $1,000 or more to JROTC Endowment Fund or Service Academies Awards Fund
    2. Donation may be spread over 5-year period
    3. Checks made payable to NSSAR with notation for fund choice
    4. Distribution of medal through ROTC/JROTC/Service Academies Committee
