Overview

RMS-SEPM exists to provide a stimulating forum within the Rockies geologic community for issues related to sedimentology, stratigraphy, and sedimentary petrology. This is achieved through monthly luncheon technical presentations, diverse though infrequent publication efforts, and sponsorship of field trips and core workshops. RMS-SEPM is a non-profit, professional organization with a membership drawn from a broad range of geologic backgrounds representing academia, research institutions, consulting organizations, and natural resource companies. The RMS-SEPM offers monetary scholarships each year for both undergraduate and graduate students in geological fields of study. The Donald L. Smith Research Grant Offered as a tribute to the late Edwin McKee who worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for over 30 years (see AAPG Bulletin, v. 69, p. 491-493). This grant offers a $2,000 award. The award is to be used for thesis-related research in sedimentology and/or the application of sedimentology to a better understanding of the geology of the Rocky Mountain region (in the United States).

Eligibility

Must be Undergraduate or Master's degree candidates in a geological field of study.At this point in time we are only able to distribute scholarships to students studying at universities within the United States. Conduct sedimentological research in one of the following states: Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, or New Mexico.
