Overview

Richard Newcomb and Janice Schreiber-Newcomb Scholarship Background: Richard Newcomb was born in Pennsylvania on April 19th, 1925. After graduating from high school, Dick furthered his education with an Engineering Degree from Michigan Tech in 1950. He also served his country with the United States Navy in World War II. After the untimely death of his first wife, Dorothy, he and Janice Schreiber were married in December of 1975 in Shawano. They came to permanently call the Shawano area home in 1988. Dick worked as an engineer for the Little Rapids Paper Mill for several years. Janice was a member of the Shawano County Homemakers, Shawano Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at Shawano Hospital. Dick passed away in 1997 at the age of 72 and Janice shortly after in 2000 at the age of 54. Janice’s mother, Effie Schreiber, established this scholarship in memory of Richard and Janice. Award Amount: $1,000 scholarship award for tuition expenses for full-time students. $500 scholarship award for tuition expenses for part-time students. This is a non-renewable scholarship, but recipients are encouraged to apply each year they are eligible. Loss of Eligibility: Failure to register as a part-time or full-time student at an accredited college, university or technical school for the upcoming semester.
