Geographic Scope: Inland Empire (San Bernardino and Riverside Counties), California

Purpose: To support the development of a Transition Coach Program for returning adult learners (ages 25+) in the Inland Empire

Target Population: Adult learners ages 25 and older who have obtained some college but do not hold a degree or certificate

Background: The Bank of America Foundation has supported GIA's work with returning adults since 2019. GIA established an Adult Learner Action Network Team coordinating efforts among education leaders and workforce partners to help adults in the region increase their education levels.

Program Services: Transition coaches will help individuals:

Identify a career path

Enroll in the right classes

Apply for financial aid

Link to additional resources such as childcare, transportation, mental health services, and other support services

Key Facts:

Inland Empire residents with a Bachelor's degree earn approximately $24,000 more per year on average than those with only a high school diploma (2017 census data)

Large number of adults in the Inland Empire have some postsecondary credits and may be closer than realized to earning a degree or certificate
